George Stanley McGovern, (born July 19, 1922)

is a former United States Representative, Senator, and Democratic presidential nominee.

McGovern lost the 1972 presidential election in a landslide to incumbent Richard Nixon.

It is not that people liked Richard Nixon so much

but they could not tolerated George McGovern.

As a decorated World War II combat veteran,

McGovern was noted for his opposition to the Vietnam War.

He was appointed United Nations Ambassador on World Hunger in 2001.

McGovern was the Democratic presidential candidate who lost to President Richard Nixon in 1972 in a historic landslide.
