is a former United States Representative, Senator, and Democratic presidential nominee.
McGovern lost the 1972 presidential election in a landslide to incumbent Richard Nixon.
It is not that people liked Richard Nixon so much
but they could not tolerated George McGovern.
As a decorated World War II combat veteran,
McGovern was noted for his opposition to the Vietnam War.
He was appointed United Nations Ambassador on World Hunger in 2001.
