William Batchelor and his son Richard fled Buckinghamshire England in 1648 for being Quakers...

Richard Berry and John Biggs were arrested and punished in Buckinghamshire,

England in 1648 for being Quakers.

All appeared in MD and VA colonies late that year.

It is assumed that they either were deported

or fled for religious reasons.

William named his son Richard (for his friend Richard Berry)

and Richard named his son William.

Richard married daughter of John Biggs - Ann Biggs 1644.

William arrived in VA on 12-21-1648 on the north side of the Yorke River.

Richard sailed from Bristol England on 8-27-1661 at approximately 16 yrs of age.

He had signed a contract as an indentured servant to a William Dunning of VA.

Check this. Was it normal for a 16 year old to sign a contract, or was he 18?

Born about 1645 in England, Richard was in America by 1658.

Richard died in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia in 1682; he was about 37.

Richard married Ann Biggs, daughter of John and Johanna Biggs. Ann was born 1644/1647 in England. Ann remarried twice and died in Scuppernong, Chowan County, North Carolina after 1711.3 After Richard died, and before 6 Oct 1686, when Ann was 42, she married second a Mr. Shaw, Ann married third James Faux (Fewox).3

In March 1675/6, Richard Bachelor was granted 700 acres near the head of Deep Creek in Southern Branch, Elizabeth River.11
