Silicon Controlled Rectifier

The SCR rectifier is normally OFF
- A positive voltage on the Gate will turn it ON
- if the Anode is positive and the cathode is negative
- Once turned ON, the gate no longer has control.
- It will stay ON until the voltage is removed, reversed, or current drops below the holding current.
- This works well with AC voltage, because it turns OFF on every cycle.
- It also works on pulsating DC
